Born to beautiful Bollywood couple late Sunil Dutt and Nargis, Sanjay was brought up in the showbiz. However, Sanju was not among those, who liked to get things on a golden plate, rather he wanted to create his own space in the industry.

His beloved mother Nargis died only four days prior to his Bollywood debut 'Rocky'. Sanjay's personal life took a turn for the worse and he took to booze and drugs after his mother's death.

Worried about his son, Sunil Dutt sent Sanjay to a drug rehabilitation centre in America.

Describing the days when he was in prison as "traumatic, " he said, "Every human being in the world takes freedom for granted. But once it is taken away from you, you realise how valuable it is, and I have realised that."
