After Shweta Basu Prasad was detained in an alleged sex racket and reprimanded in a remand home, she was scouting for scripts. According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, the actress has now joined Phantom Productions as a script consultant. Though the actress has acting ambitions, she is keeping the job till she can find a script good enough for her. Speaking about the development in the report, Shweta agreed that she was essentially a curator in Phantom Productions and that she was going through potentially promising scripts. She also asserts that she likes her new job as reading scripts helps her grow as an actor. The actress also squashes reports that claimed she had been signed for a documentary by Hansal Mehta. Clearing the air on the speculation, she explains how she had taken a documentary on Hindustani classical music to show Hansal who liked and appreciated it.

Shweta Basu Prasad, who was mired in a controversy this year when she was caught in an alleged prostitution racket, has accused the media of wrongly dragging her name into a prostitution case. The starlet was sent to a rescue home for 59 days after a prostitution racket allegedly involving her was busted, reports PTI. On December 5, the Metropolitan Sessions Court, Nampally, Hyderabad, gave Shweta a clean chit in the case by withdrawing charges and stay order against her that was made by a trial court. According to the PTI report, in an open letter posted on her Twitter account, the 23-year-old Makdee star said she was sad with the way things played out in the press. "I understand that everything was a chain of reaction and versions of the incident with several misleading stories were picked up along with my... wait, not my statement... for the rest of India or anyone, anywhere on planet, for the last time: This is not my statement, " she said. Shweta said that she wanted to move ahead in life and forget the whole episode. "I have completely gone past the whole incident and I overlook everyone who picked up false statements and encouraged misleading stories without verifying it's authenticity. I overlook, because this episode does not deserve any more attention, " she said.

The Hyderabad sessions court on Saturday gave a clean chit to actress Shweta Basu Prasad who was arrested in connection with a sex racket. Shweta, who recently got out of a remand home, was visibly relieved. "I can't tell you what a huge relief the verdict is for me and for my family. The court has quashed all the charges against me and it feels great to have been vindicated. For the first time in many months, I'm relieved to see a smile on my parents's face, " said the actress. Shweta went on to add that she had put the unsavoury episode behind her and is raring to go. She has recently joined Anurag Kahsyap's production house Phantom as a script consultant. The national award winning child actress can finally heave a sigh of relief.

National Award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta went a step ahead and offered the her a role in his upcoming film too. He took to Twitter and wrote, "Stop posting pictures of Shweta. Put out the pictures of her wealthy clients and the pimp. Expose the scumbags not the soft target. I intend to offer Shweta Prasad a role in my next film. She was so good in Makdee." Keeping the promise he had made in the tweet, Hansal offered a role to actor Shweta Basu Prasad in his next documentary, as reported in Hindustan Times. The report quoted Hansal as saying that they spoke over the phone and also met in his office. He also revealed that he offered her a role in his documentary which will be based on Hindustani classical music. However, the filmmaker maintains that he hasn't offered the film to the actress out of pity and asserted in the report that no one should. The report also quoted the filmmaker praising the actress' acting skills.

Shweta denies having said to any journalist that she was forced into prostitution. She also denies ever hiring an agent named Balu who was arrested accepting cash allegedly on her behalf. “I had gone to Hyderabad to attend an awards function, the Santosham Awards, and the organisers had paid for my air-fare and hotel stay. It was my bad luck that I decided to stay on an extra day to meet my friends which is when the raid happened, " said Shweta to Mumbai Mirror.“I don't understand how I got into such a big mess. I was not doing drugs, I was not murdering someone... people are so interested (only) because they think here's some sex, some suffering and someone with a name [sic], " she adds.

According to a report in Times of India dated September 13, 2014, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone had commented on the Shweta Basu Prasad case. Speaking to Indiatimes about Shweta, Deepika said that there is nothing wrong with it (her involvement in prostitution) if it was the only thing she could do to support herself and family. She said that it is unfair to make a scandal about it and rather than looking down upon her, it was time to get together and support her. [sic]

It was not just Deepika who came in support of National Awards winner Shweta Basu Prasad. Filmmakers Karan Johar and Vishal Bhardwaj also touched upon this sensitive case. Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor who directed Shweta in Iqbal came to her rescue on micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote, “My take on Shweta Prasad. Great actress (Iqbal). Sweet wonderful girl. Don’t judge her and leave her be for god’s sake!!!" [sic]

On the other hand, Rani Mukerji who had been talking a lot about women empowerment while promoting her film Mardaani did not comment on the issue at all. Other celebrities like Aamir Khan and Farhan Akhtar also faced flak from various parts of the media for keeping quiet on this issue. A lot of media reports have pin-pointed Aamir Khan for not talking about this issue as he is very vocal about so many others.
