SecurIST Advisory Board Recommendations for a Security and Dependability Research Framework |
| SecurIST - Advisory board releases paper outlining research that is urgently needed regarding European security and dependability | ||
| The SecurIST Advisory Board has undertaken the action of addressing the European Security and Dependability Research Framework from the perspectives of the Information Society’s various stakeholders, with a particular focus on those of the individual or citizen within this Society. The information systems that make up the European Information Society in this context consists of hardware, software, processes and people, thus covering non-technical as well as technical aspects. Stakeholders of the Information Society include (but are not limited to) individual citizens, SMEs, large corporations, non-governmental organisations and governments. The report prepared by the SecurIST advisory board was submitted to the European Commission as input for the possible focus regarding research to be funded in this area under Framework Program 7. |
| The SecurIST approach is complementary to the approach by the European Security Research Advisory Board ESRAB, which is rather focused on security from a government and enterprise perspective and to the work of the European Network and Information Security Agency ENISA, focussing on best practices in CERT co-operation, risk management and awareness. The Advisory Board has come to the conclusion that given various trends that are outlined in the report, if there is to be a secure and dependable future Information Society in Europe, the following SEVEN KEY AREAS need to be addressed in a European Security and Dependability Research Framework: |
| 1. Empowerment of the Citizen 2. Europe-specific Security and Dependability 3. Infrastructure Robustness and Availability 4. Interoperability 5. Processes for Developing more Secure and Dependable Systems 6. Security and Dependability Preservation 7. User-centric security and dependability standardization |
